Why I ditched Wordpress for Webflow

I’ve worked with Wordpress but switched to Webflow. Why? Well, I’ve written a whole article about this. Simply put, Webflow is better.

Both WordPress and Webflow are website builders designed to simplify your online experience. WordPress is the most popular open source and PHP based content management system on the market. It offers the simplicity of a fully flexible backend and tons of website design customization features. You can design your WordPress site as you choose, with tons of plugins for things like SEO, payment processes and much more.

Webflow is a popular SaaS cloud-based platform. The range of in-depth tools this system offers makes it as robust as a CRM like WordPress. With Webflow, you can access a fantastic canvas to build your website. However, you may need some developers to help you make the most of the technology. It’s no-code and you can design and release webs without writing a single line of code but you can benefit from more features when you have developers involved. This, obviously, depends on the project you are working on and how complex it is.

Let’s check out some quick advantages Webflow has:

#1 Design Freedom

Webflow allows you to start with a blank canvas or one of over 100 templates and customize everything visually. On the other hand, while using Wordpress, unless you're a coder, you'll need a visual design plugin, or be restricted by available templates.

#2 Code Quality

Webflow outputs code that's as clean and semantic as you can make it. WordPress relies on plugins and this makes poor code quality.

#3 SEO

Webflow offers fully customizable SEO settings that are easy to setup. Webflow sites are built for the modern internet and search engines gives you extra points for mobile friendly design and performance. Wordpress is easy too but you need a plugin.

#4 Site Security

Webflow offers free SSL on all sites, backed by constant threat monitoring.

#5 User-friendliness of CMS

WordPress dashboard provides lots of options that are irrelevant to most clients, and lacks on-page editing. Webflow has a simple on-page editing system.

#6 Price

Webflow has two types of pricing plans to choose from. The first option is the website plans that start at a price of $ 12 per month for anyone who just wants a website without a CMS. However, if you want CMS functionality to help you rank higher on Google and other search engines, you'll need to upgrade to plans starting at $16 per month. If you prefer e-commerce plans, you can start with the standard plan at $ 29 per month.

Alternatively, WordPress is a completely free open source solution. However, you must handle many additional costs on your own. For example, you won't have a support team unless you go and create one for yourself. You'll also need to check your own WordPress Hosting options, invest in things like CDN technology, SEO plugins and more.

#7 Content Management

Webflow has a CMS that’s designed to work for everyone from developers and designers to content management. You can design your content directly on the page and watch your website grow as you go. In addition, there is the option of adding advanced options, such as displaying content by filters or adding multiple languages to your site.

Design your vision with good quality code and no plugins

All in all, Webflow combines a fully customizable CMS with powerful visual website design tools, so you can build a custom database for every site, and design around your real content. One of the key features is being able to work together with designers, marketing strategists, content creators and developers in the same tool. You have nothing to install, automatic updates, and no PHP. You can also prototype your site with Webflow, and password protect it for client-only access, export to host elsewhere, control what’s editable and what isn’t, optimize meta titles and descriptions, add canonical tags, have automatic responsive images and way more.
